Hey you, welcome back to my blog! As always, I hope you find some encouragement reading my post today. During quarantine, I’ve fallen back in love with reading. I’ve always been a reader, but now I’ve definitely had more time. I read everything from Christian books to mystery novels to autobiographies and more. Today you’ll read about my favorite Christian books that I’ve been reading, a little about them, and a favorite quote from them. I’ve also gone through and linked each photo in case you’re interested in purchasing any of them. I hope y’all enjoy!
Live by Sadie Robertson
If you’re looking for a book that will encourage and inspire you in living life and following God, this is it! I’ve followed Sadie on Instagram for a while now and I LOVE her. She is bold in her faith and challenges those around her to live their lives boldly for Jesus. Sadie has a few other books out, but this is the first one I’ve picked up. It is GOOD yall. It inspired me and encouraged me not only to stop the comparison game that we all play so well, but it taught me practical things that I can be doing to make sure that I am living my life to the fullest. One of my favorite quotes from the book was: “You don’t have to be a speaker, a preacher, or someone famous on Instagram for God to use you. You can be in the lions’ den, and your life can make a difference-because it’s not about what you can do for yourself; it’s about what the power of heaven can do through you.”
Elizabeth Elliott: Joyful Surrender by Janet and Geoff Benge
Yall! This book is insane. It’s about the faith of a woman following God’s call to be a missionary across the world in Ecuador. Elisabeth Elliott is truly a woman on fire for God and is determined to follow His will for her life, no matter what that may look like. Reading this book you’ll also learn about her love story with her first husband Jim Elliott. One of my favorite quotes from this book was: “’Lord, I give up all my own plans and purposes, all my own desires and hopes, and accept Thy will for my life. I give myself, my life, my all utterly to Thee to be Thine, forever. Fill me and seal me with Thy Holy Spirit. Use me as Thou wilt, work out Thy whole will in my life at any cost, now and forever.’”
Passion and Purity: Learning to Bring Your Love Life Under Christ’s Control by Elisabeth Elliott
This book is written by the same Elisabeth Elliott that I just spoke about above. It dives more into the foundation of her relationship with her first husband (I won’t give any spoilers about their marriage; you have to read to figure it all out). If you’re single or in a relationship, this book is for you. It discusses all of the important things that you should consider before getting into a relationship and what a Christ-like relationship should look like. A favorite quote of mine from this book is: “…I realized that the deepest spiritual lessons are not learned by His letting us have our way in the end, but by His making us wait, bearing with us in love and patience until we are able honestly to pray what He taught His disciples to pray: Thy will be done.”
The Cross and the Switchblade by David Wilkerson
My small group leader from college wanted to get me something special for my birthday. I told her I really love reading and wanted an old book, you know the ones with no cover picture and just the title on the side? It’s a silly request lol, but I was excited to see what she came up with. She got me this book and I am forever grateful. It is a story of how David Wilkerson started Teen Challenge, a rehab for teenagers and adults that are struggling with addiction. It is full of miracles and testimonies of what God can do when you say YES to His plans. A favorite quote of mine from the book is: “Ralph’s eyes shone as he said the next words. ‘Do you know what I think? I think I’m trapped, all right. But not by heroin. I think I’m trapped by the Holy Spirit. He’s in me and won’t let me get away.”
Relationship Goals by Michael Todd
I was telling my wonderful mother in law how I couldn’t wait to get this book and start reading it. She was kind enough to purchase it for me and I think I finished it the weekend after she got it for me. Pastor Mike gets so real and honest about his past and the hurt that him and those close to him have experienced from bad relationships. This book is for everyone: single, in a relationship, married, this book is for you. One of my favorite quotes: “I believe in discovering the truth by uncovering lies, so we’re going to put the realities of today’s relationships up against the truths in God’s Word about how to live with others. The Bible, in fact, is the greatest source for relationship wisdom, and it’s time we started applying it to relationships as they really exist. In the One who made us and knows us, there’s hope for better relationships for people like me who grew up clueless.”
These are all of the Christian books that I have gotten through in the past few months. They have encouraged me, challenged me, and taught me so much about what my walk with God should look like. If you read or have already read any of these let me know what you think! Until next time, I hope y’all have a beautiful day!
Always with Love,
