Tre and Dakota Part 1

Welcome to my first blog post! I thought I’d start off my blog by sharing the details of my husband’s and my love story! I’ll be sharing these posts in a series. Our love changed our lives and has touched those around us. I’m hoping through sharing our love story, it can impact you in some way too, if not I hope it at least brings a smile to your face. Let’s begin where it all started.

It was the summer before my junior year, I was a varsity cheerleader, a member of student council, and I didn’t have a worry in the world. At the beginning of summer, I had experienced my first break up of a short-lived relationship. For a while, I was pretty upset about the fact that my first relationship had ended so abruptly. Then I realized, I was in it for the wrong reasons. It took me getting out of that relationship and stumbling around on my own to figure out what I wanted and what I deserved. I was fortunate enough to be surrounded with people that also believed that for me. One of these friends was Trevor. We’d been best friends since freshman year, and he was someone who was always there for me. He also happened to be the manager of the basketball team for our high school, little did I know how important that minor detail would be to my future.

Summer was wrapping up and everyone was trying to hang out as much as they could before junior year started. Trevor invited me to hang out with him and some friends at the mall one day. SPOILER: my husband, Tre, was one of these friends. Let me just make a side note here and tell you that Tre being there was a miracle in itself. His parents were super strict in high school and would rarely ever let him hang out with friends. This was one of those rare occasions. Now, back to the story.

When I showed up to the mall, I went to meet Trevor. He had just gotten done paying for his food when he said “hey Dakota, I want you to meet one of my friends, he plays basketball. This is Tre.” At that time, Tre turned around. I was instantly in awe. He was easily the most handsome guy I had ever seen. He had this glow in his eyes and his smile was beautiful. We shook hands and went to sit down with everyone else. I knew there was something special about him just from our first conversations together. The conversation was so easy and flowed so well. I didn’t have to try to be witty with my comebacks or worry about trying to make myself sound cool, Tre just made it all feel so natural.

Immediately after we met, I texted one of my best friends and told her about the cutest guy that I had just met. I told her every detail about him, including that he played basketball. She paused and said “Dakota, I’ve literally pointed him out to you at the basketball games and you ignored me.” I was speechless. I’d been cheering for him for probably a year at this point and had never noticed him. He had never noticed me.

Needless to say, I couldn’t stop thinking about Tre or the conversation that we shared at lunch that day. I couldn’t wait for school to start so that I could see him more often. Meeting him wouldn’t stop replaying in my mind. Did he think I was cute? Did he enjoy our conversation as much as I did? Would I get to see him again once junior year started? Our love story was already beginning to unfold before our eyes and neither of us even knew it…yet. That’s all for now but stay tuned for where our relationship goes next!

Always with love,

Dakota
